Hatch is a program within our Acceleration Portfolio. In partnership with the Founder Institute (FI), Hatch provides early-stage defense entrepreneurs with access to programming, expert mentorship, and a global network of resources.

Designed to help founders with innovative defense ideas create companies, Hatch places entrepreneurs within a support network of startup experts invested in their success. The Founder Institute’s challenging business-building process has helped entrepreneurs around the world raise over $700 million. Hatch participants can join any U.S. Founder Institute program for free to build and accelerate their companies.

Business Discipline for Startup Founders

NSIN selects the top defense entrepreneur applicants to be awarded participation in the program. Hatch helps new teams operate early-stage ventures and develop a business strategy even if they don’t have a solid business background. Previous NSIN program participants can benefit from the Hatch program by being introduced to their first group of clients and an investor network. Hatch doesn’t require a full-time commitment and accommodates those able to participate on nights and weekends. Throughout the program, participants will be given continual support from NSIN and special access to defense mentors within the Founder Institute network.

A Global Network of Mentors and Investors

Upon graduation, Hatch participants have the opportunity to become an official Founder Institute Portfolio company. This unlocks FI’s global network, the Founder Lab fundraising program, complimentary consulting with the Vet-Tech Accelerator, and discounted partner resources. Graduation from the Hatch program positions teams and individuals to further participate in NSIN programs such as Starts, Propel, and Launch.

This year, NSIN is partnering with the Founder Institute to deliver the pilot version of Hatch through a U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) fellowship program where 10 founding teams will have the opportunity to participate as DoD fellows.
